Late drama sees Sharks down Stormers at Newlands

2019-06-15 17:02

Cape Town – A last minute try by Lukhanyo Am has given the Sharks a 12-9 victory over the Stormers in a Super Rugby encounter at Newlands

In an error-strewn first half it was Rhyno Smith of the Sharks who managed to knock down a Josh Stander pass with his knee, collect the ball and then run 95 metres to score the only try of the half.

The only Stormers score of the first 40 minutes came from a Stander penalty as the Sharks led 5-3 at half-time.

The second half never saw much of an improvement in the rugby on offer with both sides making many mistakes.

The Stormers, however, were given the lead through another Stander penalty in the 44th minute.

Replacement flyhalf Jean-Luc du Plessis extended that lead in the 75th minute after the home side won a scrum penalty.

But it was Am who ghosted through the Stormers defence in the 82nd minute for a converted try to claim victory for the Sharks.
